Journeys across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and beyond, private or in a small group, and run from start to finish by our own team on the ground in Tanzania.
Tanzania was where Kandoo began, and it’s still the place we know best. Since 2009, our team in Arusha has welcomed thousands of guests into the great parks of the north. Our own guides, chosen and trained by us, with no third parties and no handovers, just people who have spent their whole working lives learning this land.
We built Kandoo Safari for the traveller who wants that same expertise, without ever having to compromise. Whether you’re travelling privately or joining one of our small groups, every journey is guided by our own team and shaped around doing things properly.
The parks of northern Tanzania hold the greatest concentration of wildlife on earth. Each has its own personality. Together, they make the finest safari on the planet.
Endless plains, vast herds and big cats watching it all unfold. This is the safari every other safari is measured against, and it never once disappoints.
A collapsed volcanic caldera that shelters an extraordinary density of wildlife. Nowhere else gives you a better chance of seeing the Big Five in a single unforgettable day.
A soda lake tucked beneath the Rift Valley escarpment, framed by dense groundwater forest. Famous for its tree climbing lions and vast flocks of flamingos gathered along the shore.
Kandoo’s home ground, and often the first stop on safari. Mount Meru rises above forest, swamp and crater floor, home to giraffe, buffalo and colobus monkeys in striking numbers.
Ancient baobabs stand watch over Tanzania’s largest elephant herds, gathered along the river through the dry season. A quieter park, and one of our favourites for that very reason.
Consider these a starting point rather than a fixed plan. Whether you’re travelling privately or joining a small group, every Kandoo safari is guided by our own team and can be tailored around your pace, your interests and your own idea of the perfect day.
Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Tarangire, the essential introduction.
Every great park of the north, with three full days in the Serengeti.
Most safari companies sell you the dream, then quietly hand you over to someone else the moment you arrive. We’ve never worked that way. Our Arusha operation, led for years by Emanuel Nguma, runs every Kandoo safari with our own guides, travelling in well-mainained 4x4s with pop-top roofs for uninterrupted game viewing. Full board accommodation and packed lunches arranged throughout so all you need to think about is the view
It takes longer to build a company this way. It’s also the only way we’d want to build one.
As the dry season tightens its grip, wildlife gathers at every remaining waterhole across the parks, drawing herds and predators together in plain sight. The skies stay clear for days on end, and the early morning light makes this one of the best times to visit all year.
Millions of wildebeest and zebra push north across the Serengeti, with predators following close behind at every turn. It’s the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth, and nothing else compares to watching it unfold in front of you.
